Wasp Condo

This was a pretty interesting paper-wasp (aka Yellow Jacket) nest I found in an old bird feeder. I had never seen a double-decker nest before. The top part looks like it was from the year before and the bottom section is newer. This was not an active nest when I got it! I am also working on a sketch of this from another angle but it is pretty complicated... I will post it also when I finish.

ink & watercolor on Hemp paper.

  1. They are just a miracle of engineering, aren't they? Lovely job, Laura...I think the color and texture of the paper really complement it, too.

  2. These are great :) My kids are always fascinated by old wasps nests- but we usually stomp in them just in case there are live young lol

  3. I love this one! At first I thought it was some sort of fungi or something. But that was before I read the title and you story below.... Great to find treasures like these!

  4. Nice post and yes, the paper you used really enhances the drawing. Can't wait to see more.
