ARTICHOKE FLOWER

 

Our local market has a lovely organic fruit and vegetable stall where we shop at least once a week and when I saw this flower artfully displayed with the artichokes I asked if it was for sale.  The farmer said I could have it for free as it wasn't edible and he was delighted when I told him I wanted to draw it.  I'll have to remember to take my sketchbook next time to show him the results.

Botanical Art is now at the New Town Art Gallery in Williamsburg, Virginia

This October, I was asked if I would like to join the eleven artists who make up the New Town Art Gallery here in my hometown of Williamsburg, Virginia.  Oh my, I was so thrilled and honored to join this group.

New Town is one of our new retail ~ residential developments and  the gallery is on Main Street, just down the street from Barnes and Noble and across the way from Opus 9.

I was at the gallery yesterday, we each work 4 to 5 days a month and  I was in heaven.  Wen Shu and I painted all afternoon.  What  a perfect place to be. I hope you will stop by if you come to town.

Another surprise.....

I have three works in the SMALL WORKS Exhibition at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center in Hampton, Virginia where there are more than 500 pieces on display in a variety of media  ~ all no larger than 20 square inches.  This piece was awarded Third Place in Watercolor!

Eating all the pedals then going for the heart!

LOL, I knew that would grab someones attention. The artichokes in my garden have taken over! Standing at about 4" tall they are loaded with the yummy tidbits. I have cut about a dozen so far and more are coming. Lots of fun to add another page to my garden sketchbook.

A busy week-end- Concetta Flore

Well, what a plesant week-end. I hope it was the same for you. Spring has arrived with the first warm days and flowers. Here are the three watercolours I produced: artichoke plants from Elisabetta Mitrovic's vegetable plot, a beech forest in the afternoon light, and a detail from a domestic pond. All of this , in good company and eating lovely food. What best?
