At first I thought I was looking at a strange rock . . . . then realized it had wood grains. So I picked it up and continued to walk my dog. A couple blocks later, I found another one. Neither one near any tree.

they look lik fossil wood, is it hard as rock?
ReplyDeleteNo, both are very soft.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they're someone's mulch? I've got some that looks a lot like that out at the shed...
ReplyDeleteNow that you say that, it does look like it's probably mulch. I found both on sidewalks away from any planting beds, but a dog, cat, or squirrel could have played with them.
ReplyDeleteYes, they look exactly like the 'pine bark nuggets' that I buy to cover the earth along the line of my picket fence, so the mud doesn't splash up when it rains.
ReplyDeleteWhatever they are, you've drawn them very well Vicky.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrew and Paula! I'm sure they are just bits of mulch, though I hadn't seem fat chunks like this before.
