Can any of you birders identify this feather? It's about 4" long. My sketch doesn't do it justice so I've attached the actual feather. For some reason I'm thinking owl. It was found in the central mountains of West Virginia this weekend.
Thanks,
Paula in VA
Does anyone around there have Guinea fowl? Are the feather's gray with white spots? That's what it looks like to me.
ReplyDeleteyes, I thought Guinea fowl straight away. But then I don't know about spotted owls in the States.
ReplyDeleteYeah- Guinea fowl!
ReplyDeleteMy thought was also immediate a Guinea fowl Paula, but then again, I don't know the birds in the U.S. Lovely sketch though!
ReplyDeleteSure looks like Guinea Fowl to me, unless there's color involved that isn't in your sketch.
ReplyDeleteThis is very interesting because I don't know of any guinea fowl on the mountain. I guess a hawk or other predator could have carried one up from one of the farms in the valley. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I do know some folks here in F'burg who raise guineas so I'll show it to them. Thanks again!
