"Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends!"
- Marcus Tullius Cicero
My neighbour's sheep - a few weeks ago some ewes had lambs and it was the first time for MANY, MANY years that I actually held a little lamb in my arms again - oh my word! I'd forgotten how precious that can be! I wanted to take it home...!
These Dorpers and is a South African breed of domestic sheep developed by crossing Dorset Horn and the Blackhead Persian sheep. The breed was created through the efforts of the South African Department of Agriculture to breed a meat sheep suitable to the more arid regions of the country. It is now farmed in other areas as well, and is the second most common sheep breed in South Africa.
Lucky you! I've a real soft spot for lambs. We had one growing up - a pet- Charlie (don't ask me what breed). He'd loved going swimming with us...... But, he didn't like my Mom. One to many broom spanks on the butt. When wash was hung on the line to dry, he'd pick her nightgown out, pull it off and stomp all over it :) Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Maree...I'm fond of lambs, too.
ReplyDeleteI know they can be very naughty when made into a pet Pam, and they then become quite incorrigible as adults! Pleased it brought back some memories!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kate, they truly are the most gorgeous little things!
ReplyDeleteMaree---what a joy!
