Autumn setting in - Maree

“Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.”
- William Cullen Bryant

"Autumn Garden" - In Moleskine Watercolour Sketchbook - 8" x 5.5"

Autumn is in full swing and the trees in my garden are slowly starting to change colour - this is actually a friend's garden on their plot here in Tarlton, South Africa, and I just had to capture her Japanese Maple in all its glorious orange splendour amongst her mostly indigenous trees. She commented that she never knew her garden was so beautiful and that she will be looking at it differently from now on!

  1. Beautiful - you have captured those intense autumnal colours. As you are posting your nature sketches online,I am realising how much in common some parts of Australia and South Africa are. We are just starting autumn here and in some areas the Acers are also very bright

  2. Thank you Alissa! Yes, our continents are certainly very similar indeed, especially when it comes to the Blue gum trees. I've always thought Australia is a little piece of Africa that drifted away and got lost!
