A lazy Art Sunday - Maree

Inspiration does not come like a bolt, nor is it kinetic energy striving, but it comes to us slowly and quietly and all the time.

My art table last Sunday

A lazy Sunday - spent the whole day sketching and journaling on Sunday - also scanning previous sketches that I hadn't had time to do yet and filing them on my MAC.

My Feint 6-Quire Daily Journal. I mostly use it as my daily thoughts journal, but also do some accompanying sketches.

The above journal entry reads :

"Sunday 08 November 2009
The Red Bishop is back, dear Journal, and covered in all his breeding finery! On Friday I thought I caught a glimpse of him, but wasn't sure.

"Red Bishop" - 'Euplectus orix nigrifrons Linnaeus'

He was sitting on the Tiger Grass under the Acacia Karroo eyeing the bird bath. Hoped to catch him bathing, but he decided the feeding table was a better option."

Southern Red Bishop

  1. I would love to see a Red Bishop. This is a gorgeous bird rivaling our Northern Cardinal. Your sketch is well done.

  2. I love seeing other peoples' workspace and setup, Maree, this looks SO inviting. Love the Bishop, too...I'd never seen one before, thank you.

  3. Thank you Lisa and they really perk up the garden with their gorgeous colour.

  4. So do I Kate! When someone posts a photograph of their workspace, I scrutinize it for every detail! And glad you've at least seen a Bishop!

  5. Nice sketch and fun to see the space you've created for your art. You are in the spring season? So the Bishop is migrating back to nest?

Nice job on his feet. Always a challenge for me...harder to see!

  6. Thank you Vickie, and yes, they will be nesting, watched them rear two babies last year. But here's the thing - I don't know if they migrate or whether they're just inconspicuous in winter because he loses all his colour. will have to do some research.

I couldn't actually see his feet, obscured by the grass, just imagined what it would be like!

And my art space changes constantly. Used to have a lovely, large studio before we moved, but now everything is in my office where I work - everything at my finger tips! I'm considering adding a studio next to the garages, have plenty of space, but then I'll be away from the counter and my customers... ah well, will see what transpires.
