Tiny Promises

I sketched this little guy while dinner was cooking. A new addition to the family. I haven't put the tomatoes in the ground yet, still kinda too cool and very, very wet at the moment. They are hanging out under the eaves, jostling for position. I guess for y'all down south, your tomatoes must be growing up a storm already!

  2. Wonderful sketch. Both painting and gardening give joy. You are lucky to be gifted with both.

  3. It's adorable, Heidi! We planted one of ours in an upside down pot, need to get the other two into the ground today...you did a wonderful and inspiring job.

  4. Thanks folks! An upside down pot eh? Maybe I'll put this little fella in one of those and see how it goes.

  5. He looks ready for anything! You captured a certain vigor and sturdiness here. Those background washes set it off nicely, too. Yes, here in Florida my container tomato plant is 3 ft. with many green tomatoes. For summer we'll have to plant cherry-size because it's just too hot otherwise.

  6. Wow. I can't imagine already having tomatoes showing on a plant! I have to wait until August. Sigh.

  7. Wonderful portrait! Mine are just set out...probably should have put the wall-of-waters around them, but I'm, living life on the edge! Besides, I read in a garden publication that tomatoes actually produce more fruit if they're exposed to temps in the 50s for a couple of weeks when they'r still young.
