Buffalo Plum (maybe)

We found this plant Saturday on a Master Naturalist Wildflower Field Trip that I was leading. (Near Burkburnett, Texas.) There were no flowers present and I don't know exactly what it is, but my best guess at this point is Astragalus crassicarpus in the Fabaceae family. I love the common names that they had listed for this... Buffalo Plum, Ground Plum, Pomme De Prairie, and Ground-Plum Milk Vetch.  The leaves were a bit wilty by the time I did the sketch.... The fruits were the size of large grapes and really interesting. Each had two chambers with tiny seeds inside and they were very tough to cut through. Stems were woody and tough. 

This could also be Locoweed.... I hope not since Locoweed is poisonous and I had it in the ice box for a while.... if I don't show up at the blog for a few days I guess you will know what happened!

I will try to get a positive identification on this soon and update the blog and finish the labels on the page.
