WOOD PIGEON'S EGG

The other day while walking in the woods I picked up this pure white egg and identified it as a Wood pigeon.  The birds must have been encouraged by the lovely autumn weather to have another brood of chicks. I copied the bird picture from my field guide as they are rather elusive, always hiding in the treetops!

  1. I love the back ground color and the text going around!

  2. Very nice. Unfortunately the way the egg is broken into suggests it has been eaten rather than one that hatched our successfully. Maybe that is just as well. It seems late in the year for a successful nest.

  3. Elva, I hadn't thought of that, although there were a couple of tiny holes on the other side that suggested a fledgling trying to get out.

  4. Oh, he is just gorgeous! I am very fond of Wood pigeons - we have three regulars who patrol the garden.
