Black-bellied Whistling Duck

This is another preliminary study for a larger work;  is very useful to perform this type of paint because we recognize aspects of expression, color and shape that can be highlighted in the final painting.
Technique: watercolor and gouache on  moleskine.

  1. Beautiful work. The detail in this study is amazing -- love the green hues in the water and the alert expression of the duck.

  2. Was this painting done in Colombia? The Black-bellied Whistling Duck is one of my favorite Austin, TX summer birds. It's fun to remember that so many of our favorite North American species aren't just North American birds.
