Orchid watercolor

Hi everyone!

I did this watercolor few months ago, But I have a query.

The first flower is a cattleya orchid inspired in the fabulous paintings  of Martin Johnson Heade, the second one   is a arundia orchid  i did in the garden of a  friend.
What do you think is the limit or  difference between a study or sketch?

Greetings
Emmanuel

  1. I think one person's sketch is another person's study.

My sketches tend to be loose and quick, my studies are more carefully controlled. But I don't think there is a hard and fast line that defines one or another.

    Both of these are beautiful.

  2. I agree with Elva...it's how YOU feel about it that counts, to me. Both would be studies for me, because my sketches may be VERY sketchy, little more than a suggestion, sometimes.

In any case both are beautiful!

  3. Lovely work indeed. I think if you call something a study you plan to use it to create a more finished work. A sketch can also be a study but sometimes a sketch is just a sketch. Just my 2 cents.
