a visit to Arkansas

. . . and the previous day. We took a quick trip to visit old friends now living in Arkansas. It rained the whole time, but Ceilidh was still able to have fun running circles in the huge backyard, chasing squirrels, birds, chipmunks, and deer. I also saw a pair of pileated woodpeckers, though not long enough to draw them.

Our friends live in a forest on the edge of Norfolk Lake -- lots of tall oak trees which were just beginning to turn color. Last time we came, there had been a flood -- requiring a boat to take people out to their boat dock! This time the nation's drought showed in many places. A finger of the lake we passed on the way was dried up in several places.

  1. I love your forlorn Scottie. I can just see him wishing, wishing.....

  2. She had LOTS of time to run outside so she shouldn't be too forlorn --- maybe she was just on "squirrel watch" as I drew her? (But her posture looked sad to me)

  3. Wonderful sketches! I love being able to open this blog and know that sketch has got to be Vicky's. It's great fun to begin to recognize styles. Yours is always a favorite. How do you pronounce Ceilidh?

  4. Wow - thanks! I didn't know I had a "style" that was recognizable. Ceilidh is pronounced "KAY-lee" --- it is a Gaelic word for a gathering of song, dance, and a bit of story-telling.
