Cactus Monday - Yucca Seed Pod, a photo by Teri DC on Flickr.
I found this yucca seed pod hiking with my daughter and SIL. It just looked interesting and when I researched if was part of the succulent family.I sketched it with sepia ink and a bit of watercolor because it is so close to the real color.
I used a Stillman and Birn beta series sketchbook. The paper is 180# and it is gorgeous to sketch on and does take watercolor beautifully as well.
Love this - such beautiful lines!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawing, but, as a naturalist, I need to point out there is no "succulent family." Succulence is a property that plants from many different families have. Yucca is on one of the many families that used to be in the lily family, now Asparagaceae. Not to take away from the art, I really like your style of drawing. Hopefully, you don't mind learning the plant's position in the plant kingdom.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info Joe. I guess I should have googled you instead, but I really appreciate you taking the time to correct my info.
ReplyDeleteGreat sketch Teri, just LOVE it when the Yuccas flower!
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of this type of paper before Teri. I love your sketch.
ReplyDeleteLove this Teri! I've got baby Yuccas that I need to transplant. They do multiply around here.
