The Chicken Run - Maree

Ginger: So laying eggs all your life and then getting plucked, stuffed and roasted is good enough for you, is it?
Babs: It's a livin'.
- Extract from the movie "The Chicken Run"

Two of my hens taking refuge on top of the fence surrounding my wildlife pond, trying to get away from the onslaught of The Roosters. I had far too many roosters, seven (for 8 hens) but was lucky enough to find a good home for five of them.

  1. Ahhhh .... you fall in love with your chickens and can't bear to chop their heads off. I look forward to your chicken rambles.

  2. Elva, exactly! We had a farm for 7 years...coincidentally, that was when I had a LOT of furred and feathered PETS, and became a vegetarian for a while!

    Love these guys, Maree...

  4. Thanks Kate! Many of my chicks were born on the 15th January last year and I haven't touched meat since the 23rd January, almost a year now! (With the odd lapse at a barbeque or two!) hie hie!

  5. It's always hard to eat things you've named! I particularly like the freedom and looseness of this sketch. You capture so much so economically. I know I said that before but it always impresses me so.
