Pecten fossil, my dream has come true! Maria Elena Ferrari Italy
We found many fossil shells, where we are digging to build our new home. This new would not it be interesting but we live on a hill 300 m above sea level in Emilia!!! A few million years ago there was the sea floor, and inside these deposits of marine origin have also found this Pecten, shell famous Botticelli's Venus emerging from a Pecten! The brown parts are the parts of the real fossil bivalves (watercolor on Fabriano sketchbook) where is broken he left his mark (white parts). I'm quite excited to know that you have in your hands and be able to sketch something that has perhaps ten (or less) million years ...!!!If there is an experienced paleontologist between you ... I am curious! My dream has come true: to have a beach house!
What an amazing find, Maria! Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI'm no paleontologist, Maria, but I love geology and get really excited about fossils, too! Where I live, in the center of the US, there was no land, it was an inland sea. We are 900 feet above current sea level, and even higher than where I live are limestone bluffs, formed by the tiny bodies of sea creatures. I find lots of fossils too...I understand your excitement! (We have salt licks near here too, deposited by this same sea.)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawing ... and I smile at the thought of your 'beach house' 300 m above the sea.
ReplyDeleteI love your drawing and story and am so happy for you that you finally have your beach house!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathryn, Kate, Elva and Debbie for your kind and interesting comments!
ReplyDeleteLovely sketch Maria. I, too, understand your excitement about this find. Wonder what they'll find of us in 3 million years?
