The Caterpillar Hunter - Laura Gillis
These are one of my favorite ground beetles. The iridescent colors are just beautiful and these look like big jewels on spindly legs. (Maybe one of these days I will figure out how to paint those colors.)
I wonder if these guys like owlet moth caterpillars? I was working out in the shop fairly late last night and when I quit and looked around, the shop was swarming with hundreds of moths! When the eggs from those moths hatch it should be a grand buffet for the Caterpillar Hunters!

"Maybe one of these days I will figure out how to paint those colors" I'll bet interference paints would work really well for these, although I'm not sure if they're an option for WC which is what I suspect you are using. Lovely job. I'm also a big fan of these guys.
ReplyDeleteI'd say you came VERY close, Laura, it's wonderful as always. And yep, Daniel Smith makes interference and metallic watercolors, you might try that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! The Daniel Smith catalog is usually a dangerous place for me! ha! I will have to check that out.
ReplyDeletewonderful work!
