American Cockroach - Laura Gillis

It has been a long time since I have posted here -- I have let life and other things get in the way of my sketching but I am working hard to get the balance shifted back where it should be! (I am always much happier in a sketchbook!)

One thing I have been working on is finishing my journal from our trip to Alaska in August. I have posted it on my blog (yellowcatart@blogspot.com) if you want to take a look. I didn't post it here because most of it was done in the studio and from my photos after we got back home. Somehow, it seemed that we were on the move the entire time and I didn't get (or make) enough time to sketch. So, I took lots of notes and even more photos and I went from there.

It is good to get back to the bugs though... I have missed them!

I have got to get this one off my desk and into the box where I don’t see him every morning. This big honkin’ roach was terrorizing the guys in the web development department back in our old office before our move in December. They caught it for me so I could add it to my collection and here we are. I really do dislike roaches -- but I don’t really know why. I think it must be their creepy way of running around. As much as I hate to admit it, they are amazing insects and kind of pretty. (Still not pretty enough that I want them around though.)

  3. I'm with you. I don't really like the little beasties, but they are facinating. Nice bug.
