Good news, bad news...carpenter bees!

carpenter bees

Here's more info on these little miners, from the University of Kentucky

carpenter bee culprit

And this is the actual culprit! They're big, and the males are aggressive, but they have no stinger. The female does, but seldom stings unless handled. Yeah, right, I'm going to do that...

  3. Thanks, both of you. They are definitely a problem, but so for I haven't even tried to address...

  4. Beautiful sketch Kate! Oh, I couldn't get it over my heart to spray them with anything, but I don't know what kind of damage they can inflict - strangely enough, Wikipedia says their holes are shallow and very rarely inflict real damage...? I've just had one of my properties fumigated for termites - they imperceptibly get into wooden door frames and inflict MASSIVE damage.

  5. You've got it captured. I don't think I would have ever slowed down to sketch THAT! Nice sketch.
