There seem to be bits of bark everywhere my dog and I walk. I'm not sure if that's a bad thing (trees under stress) or a normal thing (like a snake shedding it's skin as it grows larger).

NICE work, girl...I think perhaps it depends on the kind of tree, too. These look like they might be Norway Maple or some such, which tends to shed more...

The smoother one in back is from the Japanese Zelkova we planted a couple of years ago. Others were picked up in the street, but there are lots of maples around here.
