Carder/Wool Bees

I am having a bit of an infatuation with my bees in the garden this season. They are so fascinating. This male patrols his patch of flowers very carefully and runs off any intruder. It keeps him busy to be sure.

  2. You ARE finding some great bees! This one is SO handsome! I'm still wanting to sketch my carpenter bee, perhaps you'll inspire me to get out there and watch him again.

  5. Fascinating observations! Your bee portrait is wonderfully painted, too. I can just picture the females preparing the nest with fine, soft hairs and extra provisions. So enjoyable - thank you!

  6. Thanks folks. I'll keep you updated on my main man. He seems to be declining in vigour so perhaps the end of his life cycle is drawing near.
