On Sunday I sketched two plants that I'd seen plenty of times when living in Western NY, but had never taken time to sit and study them. I left room for plant names only to discover that I forgot to pack my wildflower guide book!!!!!!!! Arguhhhhhh!
Lucky for me, that a blogging friend, Carol, came to my rescue. It was driving me crazy that I might have to wait a few more weeks to find the answer!
Keeping this craziness in mind....... does anyone know what plant this is?

Pam, this looks a lot like our Physalis sp.; I know it by the common name of Ground Cherry. A species grows here in Florida, and I also remember one growing in Iowa. It seems to like disturbed areas, and the lantern houses a berry that turns a lovely shade of yellow-orange. Your pages are so descriptive and nicely laid out.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like Comfrey to me. I have never seen them with yellow flowers but I have read that they can be white or cream.
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo! Looks like Ground Cherry to me :) Thank you so, Elizabeth! We're only here a few more weeks. I'll keep checking to see if the berries develop.
ReplyDeleteGreat, Pam! I think that just proves the accuracy and beauty of your work!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice thing to express. Thank you so, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteI love your composition on these pages. Very interesting to record details about the plants that you come across.
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this one! What a terrific record...
