Albino Cricket?

This was an odd little cricket I found on my front steps. Other than the color, it looks just like a field cricket. I didn't find anything like this in my insect books so if anyone has an idea of what it is let me know. For now I am calling it an Albino Field Cricket (female). She was really pretty....

  1. Neat, Laura! I once found an albino cockroach, and thought that was SO gross...then someone who knew more about their life cycle told me that it may have just molted and not developed the color yet. Wonder if that's what's the deal with your delightful cricket? (And why is it that crickets don't gross us out and cockroaches do?!)

  2. I hadn't really thought about the molting process... you may be right. That might explain the "curliness" of the antennae too... maybe they just hadn't developed yet. Whatever the reason, she was really interesting looking.

I will keep watching -- This is the time of year that the crickets get thick and begin to invade the homes and businesses in our area. Maybe I can find another "Albino" and watch it and see if it changes color. If I see anything like that I will let you all know!

  4. Wow, that is so interesting. To catch an insect during the molting stage is really unusual.
