Wooly Worm

I went out last night to look for some new insects for the journal but all I came up with was several "wooly worms" running around in the yard.  The nearest thing I could find in any of my books was a Tiger Moth larvae but I don't have the foggiest idea what this will turn into.... I guess I could have tried to keep him and see if I could get him to the adult stage but I released him back into the yard and maybe I will catch him again later....

When I was a kid we used to see the black and brown banded "wooly worms." Supposedly, the width of the brown band on the worm was supposed to tell you how bad the upcoming winter would be but I don't know if that really works or not.

This is ink & watercolour in the Moleskine Watercolour Sketchbook.

  3. Great one.......he has more hair than I so I'm jealous..hahahha. I remember being told about the winter thing and after all this time I still don't know if there's any truth to it.
