Morning Warm Ups - Messy Sketchies

When I was at Snow Farm I liked to sketch in the morning before breakfast as a sort of "warm up" before going to the studio. It was warm enough to sit outside with the birds chirping, and there weren't a lot of other people around to distract me. If I didn't do anything else good all day, I at least did something nice for myself in my own sketchbook. In another way I felt like I got a lot of mess up stuff out of the way and it got me used to drawing each morning. I'm finding that these days the hardest thing for me is to convince myself to start, but once I do, I'm on a roll.

  1. Carolyn! If that's messy, I'd like to see NEAT. Love the top one, especially...

  2. Haha! I sometimes sketch really messy but I never show anybody. Most of my "sketches" are really drawings because I spend so long on them and am generally neat. One of the things I've been working on is trying to improve my speed while maintaining neatness.

  3. Your messiness is wonderful! I have to remind myself to get messier because then it seems that I'm more descriptive with my lines. I think you've captured this tree really well.

  4. Haha! Messy? Perhaps in your eyes. They look perfect to me. I agree with grabbing some time in the morning, it can really help to set the rest of the day.
