Hello Paula Yes I am in a 27 month long distance diploma program with the Society of Botanical Artists of the UK. Though people all over the world take part in it, as I live in Northern Canada. This is assignment 3 out of 12 and then there is a 3 part portfolio at the end too. The assignments are challenging and you must be a good at time management but I feel it has really helped me push myself to improve. And get more done than if I did not have a deadline. You get assignment a tutor for each unit.
The next course starts in January 2013. You can download the PDf prospectus to see an outline of each assignment. I am thrilled because I am finally getting to painting flowers!!! It takes some discipline to get through the first 3 assignments being pencil, ink, coloured pencil, and then painting leaves but already I can tell my flower painting skills have improved from all of it.
You do have to submit some work to get accepted to the program, I did not think I was good enough to get accepted but it seems I did. The paintings on the website are so good it makes my stomach turn..but somehow I have been progressing.... and most importantly enjoying myself.
