Dutch Tulips

Coloured pencils on gesso board

I’ve scattered some tulips on my drawing pad and named my drawing Strewn Tulips.

  2. Very pretty … and a great way to practice drawing all those positions.

  3. Thank you, Valerie. Tulips are spring, but you can buy them in the Netherlands year round. On the one hand, that is great. However, it takes a lot of energy and chemicals to have spring flowers available every day of the year, so I prefer seasonal flora as well as seasonal fruit and veggies.

Thank you, Elva. I rotated the gesso board after drawing a circle in which I planned the tulips. Smudging was a concern, but for that an electric eraser comes in handy.

  4. Oh my, these are lovely! Thank you for sharing your process, Paula. It won't be too long till we can buy forced bulbs, blooming in the stores, and I can't wait!
